Humanrace by Pharrell W.

Pharrell + fountin of youth = Humanrace

Do you remember in 2014 Pharrell made a serious public announcement that he is NOT a vampire ?

His simple answer was, “I just wash my face“.

Pharrell’s ageless physical appearance makes it easy to wonder if he discovered the fountain of youth. Pharrell started taking care of his skin back in his twenties learning little tricks from the women in his life. For example Naomi Campbell taught him to work in products with an anti-gravity and upward motion.  If you still did not start doing this... my dear, it’s time!

And maybe Pharrell will not share all his secrets but he did deliver us an early christmas gift by launching a skincare line on November 25th. called Humanrace.

Together with his longtime Dermatologist, Elena Jones, they developed 3 essential products: A rice powder cleanser, a lotus enzyme exfoliant and a humidifying moisturizer- making it a 3 minute facial, as they call it.

At first glance, this clean beauty line is very 2020:

1.    It is completely vegan

2.    A refill system allows consumer to recycle their already green packaging

3.    Finally something everyone can use since skincare is unisex!

Scrolling through their website, I took a closer look at their rice powder cleanser:  It is supposed to remove excess oil but it also contains an enzyme exfoliator called AHA (I personally prefer chemical peeling agents over physical exfoliators since they are less irritating).

The lotus enzyme exfoliant also contains AHAs like glycolic acid and combined with other peeling agents this a powerful and effective exfoliator.

Just be careful to not use this product everyday (especially if you have sensitive skin or for example if you are on acne medication). In fact, whenever you try out a new exfoliant you should not use it more than twice a week. You can apply it more frequently once you are sure you can tolerate it.

More is not always more. There’s such a thing as over-exfoliating!

You follow cleansing and exfoliating (step 1 and 2) by moisturizing.

Given from the description, I expect the cream to be super moisturizing (containing hyaluronic acid) while leaving a hint of mist on your face as if you are walking through a rainforest (average stroll, right?) . Williams grew up in Virginia Beach close to the ocean, describing his strong connection to water in various interviews. He says that he grew up in humid climates and believes that this had a big impact of his skin well-being. I can only agree since there are many scientifically proven positiv effects of  environmental humidity including stabilization of the epidermal barrier and less eczema flare ups.

“You don’t have to be a pro at the skincare game to try this!”

From the name of this brand to the way they designed and simplified their user friendly products, every aspect of Humanrace lives up to Pharrell’s philosophy: “You don’t have to be a pro at the skincare game to try this!”. Another detail that emphasizes that this product is for everyone is the use of braille language on the packaging.

Maintaining a good and non-complex skincare routine should be available to everyone since, at the end of the day, we all share the same DNA (to rephrase it in Pharell’s words).

Follow humanrace.com to check for their restock.

Who is excited to try ? Iam !

Watch this where he emphasizes on having a routine and practicing maintenance...
