The power of bathing!
Cleopatra, considered the most beautiful woman in ancient times, had an interesting skincare routine: She bathed in milk, donkey milk to be specific. Rituals make traditions, traditions make history: The famous Cleopatra Bath (prescribed by Dermatologists for centuries). Before we share our favourite recipes, let’s quickly summarize the power of a good bath:
General health benefits from bathing Studies show that hot baths aid in the prevention of hypertension and general cardiovascular disease. Consider a short (10-15min) hot bath to be sufficient.
Balneotherapy describes the therapeutic effect of special baths for patients with skin diseases like eczema, psoriasis and many more. One very popular ingredient with proven efficacy for inflammatory skin diseases is sea salt. Maybe a few of you notice great skin after a holiday spent bathing in the dead sea and being exposed to the sun?
Time to prep mini spa at home
If you want to spice up your bathing game feel free to add 1-2 ingredients
Add ons and when to use them:
Milk: Lactic acid is an AHA and, therefore, it helps to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. (susanne kaufmann basensalz)
Bleach: Baking soda helps soothen skin and is a good anti-inflammatory ingredient (a core ingredient of bath bomb btw)
Salt: Helps to relax and target muscular tension
Essences like lavender: Great to wind you down, it’s calming properties are perfect before bedtime.
One thing about natural oils and essential oils: since they can cause irritants, you might want to test them on your wrist if you have sensitive skin. We recommend not to bath in bath bombs and essentials any longer than 15 min and wash off any remains.
